If someone is planning to keep their truck beyond the manufacturer's warranty and be without an extended warranty is just plain crazy. Myself, I'd be trading it in a 99,000 miles. No way could I afford a $10,000 + repair.
Does anyone know what the real failure rate is on these things?I I just have a hard time believing that this is an inevitible ticking time bomb, that WILL go.
With the cost of a new truck, payment is almost certainly $500/month. Two years of no payments would pay for the possibility of a failure.
I love the idea of the improved MPG of the new trucks, as well as the new gadgets they have, but my plan is to keep my truck for another 10 years.
I think you will find that the replacement cost on CP3 pump is FAR LESS than the loss of a CP4.
While it would be nice to have a newer TV, I can replace the VP$$ and six injectors for about $2,000. The failure of the VP44 will not destroy the injectors normally. That and I have taken out the FASS insurance policy on the VP44 by installing a better low pressure lift pump.
You should not have a injection pump failure for many thousands of miles since you upgraded the part that caused the pump to go bad in the first place.
2nd gen 24 valve injection pumps are VERY dependable as long as it has a good quality pusher pump. Most that know of this install a fuel pressure gauge.
