No not always but take any 2 identical trucks and put larger tires and a lift on one and leave the other one at manufacturer stock and accelerate and drive them at the same speed and the modified one will experience more stress and advanced wear because of the overall ratio change. The only partial exception to this would be if the modified truck was re geared to bring it back to factory but that seldom happens because of cost and the drive line angles are still modified. The difference is that the cheap way to made up for it is with the accelerator pedal no matter the age of the driver.
I have built a highly modified Jeep and went to 4.56's with 33 GY MTR's, air lockers and a TNT 6.5 in long arm lift. It pretty much pulled like stock and didn't suck fuel because it was properly geared but it was big money and the drive angles extreme.
