If a pickup truck has been "Lifted" and tricked out...

...a little bit, like fancy exhaust pipes, does that mean
it probably wasn't used for towing or beat up as a work
vehicle?

Does this increase the chances that it has been lightly used?

Also, do you have to un-lift it to use to tow a TT?

Thanks,
groundhogy

Anybody know how old the OP is? He may very well be one of these "kids"...

For the OP, a lifted truck is not ideal to tow with, main reason being that increasing tire diameter has the same effect as numerically lowering the rear axle ratio. Big 35"+ tires you want a 4.56 rear to restore any kind of tow capability. The other issue is being too tall to tow a 5er, and the load rating of a drop hitch if towing a TT. Plus high center of gravity, etc.

A lot depends on how high the truck is lifted, what other mods were done, and how heavy of an RV you are looking to tow with it.

As mayo pointed out, driveline angles, suspension geometry, etc are all important when doing a lift. There are good kits that address these issues and lift a truck the right way, and there are cheapo add-ons that don't and cause ball joints, tie rod ends, and u-joints to fail on a regular basis.

In general it's not ideal to tow with a lifted truck, but I wouldn't rule it out either depending on all variables mentioned.
  • but in any case, one would have to un-lift it right?
Cant imagine someone towing with those things.

  • I agree with all of the above. Stay away -- far, far away.

  • Too many trucks are so called lifted with little knowledge of drive angles, clearances etc.it likely was some boys idea of a modern day hot rod.I will bet it also has or had a tuner or chip installed at one time. Not my idea of what I would buy for any reason far less a tow vehicle.
  • Lifted and aftermarket add ons to me indicates some kid likely owned it and possibly beat it to death. Unless it was stuff I wanted tyere is no way I could consider it.
