I guess the reasons aircraft tires and small trailer tires are frequently changed out may be similar reasons... a lot of heat dissipated in a small carcass. Besides atrocious braking, aircraft also fight sidewinds when the wind does not line up with the runway. :)
Although modern jets use a lot of reverse thrust, flaps etc, the wheel brakes are still primary stoppers. They often use multiple discs per wheel. A bit of trivia, disc brakes were first used on WWII aircraft and adapted by Jaguar for racing. It was a heart-rending moment for Jaguar's competitors until they caught up.
