My first thought when watching the video was how many of us would tow that mountain with the foot to the floor. I know it was a test and it was fun to see.

That is REALLY BAD ASSUMPTION ... Programmed shift strategies are not designed to stay in gear up to basically the redline for power, but to shift for MPG reasons. When pulling a really hard grade I will get into direct and push this puppy up to 3K and keep it there if possible. I will never see 3K in any gear except OD and going way too fast to be towing regardless of grade.

I have found this with my truck as well. If I want to maintain speed by keeping it at the peak of the power curve, I have to do it manually. Tow haul will allow the speed to decay too much for my taste, before it will shift down.

I think if you tried towing up it at half or 3/4 throttle you would be getting run over.

That Gauntlet video looked good to me, I believe all three brands would do very well making it to the top of the those grades. I think the driver could have controlled the downhill speed a bit better if he geared down manually.

Look at those times, very close in several test. I wouldn't let speed test decide which diesel truck I bought.

I have found with a diesel, that foot to the floor is almost never the best to get up a steep hill.

Yes, it does. Just push button to shift once, and the gears appear. Which gear you are in, and which gear you have limited it to.

I was wondering, as the driver of the Dodge was guessing at what gear he was in.
