Get a Sub with the factory tow package and watch your loading, air the tires up to max PSI, adjust your WD hitch correctly and enjoy the ride.
Just a word of caution, the GM receivers early in the 2000's were Junk and may need to be replaced with a quality aftermarket receiver.
An expedition with a Tow Package, 3.73 axles, and a proper WD hitch would do the job as well. I like Expeditions and Tahoes because of their day to day live ability and maneuverability. They are a little shorter on wheelbase but are nothing that can't be safely used to tow with, especially at those weights and lengths.
I am in a similar situation as you, I need to replace my DD and I would like a 3/4 ton SUV or truck, but my families lifestyle would be better suited by a half ton SUV. Our next trailer is going to be a lightweight bunkhouse which will be a 4,500-5,000 lb ish UVW TT with a GVWR in the 7,000 lb range. 100% capable of being pulled safely by a half ton.
Good luck!
