Thread after thread of modern diesel engine talk is making me really think we are in the dark days of technology (or, more to the point, emission ****). The pre-DPF diesels are largely talked about as the cream of the crop. Pretty sad considering they are now 10 years in the rearview. Is there any light at the end of the tunnel?
I feel like 30 years from now the freeways will look like Cuba with a bunch of 2000-2006 Chevy/Dodge diesels rolling around.
We are just in a transition period. No worries...
Back in 94 when Ford went to the Powerstroke there was a lot of concern about the new "electronically controlled" Diesel. To the point where, at least in my area, there was a run on IDI Turbo Diesels the "Pre Powerstroke" that was mechanical with "no electronics to fail"... There were some teething issues with the Powerstroke but now it's the Gold Standard in diesels.
I am shy from the new diesels...I am waiting to see the technology mature...but I think it's going very well..DEF seems to be a major part of the solution for the trucks.
I am curious to see how the DEF trucks do after the warranty expires and we get some real age on these trucks.
As for power...we are in the glory days...400 hp and 800-900 lb ft of tq...glory days.
Same goes for the gas HD trucks...we have the best ones we ever have.
New trucks today are truly remarkable pieces of technology.
Thanks!
