You can definitely put a small camper on a full size truck. Many years ago, I purchased a truck camper for my 4 x 4 Toyota. It was a load for the Toyota but I managed okay with overload springs. When our first child was born I purchased a full size 3/4 ton Ford supercab. It was real tight backing under the camper to load/unload. but I was able to do it. I built a "pad" out of plywood and 2x6 lumber in order to have the overhang clear the cab. I made the pad in such a way that I could utilize that space for additional storage (mostly long narrow items, like fishing rods, paddles, or something folded like a tarp). Since we preferred to cook outside, I made a long narrow table that I could attach to the camper jacks and carried it beside the camper, in the box of the truck when travelling.
I do not recall the exact weight of the camper but I think any 1/2 ton truck would handle the weight of a camper designed for an import. Make sure the jacks are far enough apart for you to be able to back your truck under the camper. You may have to purchase/make extensions.
Hope this helps in some way.
