In Praise of the Single Sink

I decided to make a post showing why having a single basin sink is better, at least in my opinion. My TC came with a single sink as seen in the first picture.

The first advantage is that this gives us 35" of uninterrupted counter space between the outside edge of the sink and the outside edge of the stove top, as shown in the second picture (Also shown is our full-size coffee maker in this area with room to spare).

The next advantage is that we can buy 3-gallon, plastic 'pans' that fit into the sink, exactly. As seen in the third picture. But we do not just have one plastic pan, we have two, forth picture.

And finally, the faucet on the sink easily reaches over to one of the pans if needed.

This arrangement allows us to have more counter space, keeps water from going down the drain if gray-water storage is a concern, allows us to take the two plastic pans outside to wash dishes if desired, and allows us to wash dishes using one pan for the washing, the sink for rinsing, and the second pan for holding the clean, wet dishes so water does not get all over the counter.

Our camper has double sink and still huge counter space. Will have to take picture later.
  • I wouldn't have ANY counter space if I had a double sink.

Frankly, I'm still contemplating pulling the stove top out and building a custom counter insert because I only use the burners to purge the propane lines so I can start the fridge quicker.
  • We have a double, and wish it was a single - had a single before, and when I get a round-2-it, I will change it out and get the counter space.

I hate my single sink! Really like the double idea like at home but I understand all your points.

Have wanted to buy a couple pans to try that and keep forgetting. Thanks for the reminder!! This may help me for being more like home, plus if I do not want to use the on board tank then I can dump in a pit toilet.
  • Another thread that reminds me that I should take better pictures inside my TC. In any case, I feel like this thread is begging to show a kitchen counter with double sink in a slide.

Obviously, we can dry dishes in the sink while having the second side open, or put the cover on one side and still have access to the sink. The black behind the stovetop is an adjustable electric heater, and there is more room behind the sink and behind the stovetop. It's really a huge counter for a 9 1/2 TC.

I appreciate all of the extra counter space in my Wolf Creek with a single sink also.

  • Wow, I have a single basin sink in mine too. But even with that and only a two burner stove, there is only about four inches between the sink and stove. I hardly have 33" of counter space if I use the dinette table.

I tried the plastic trays, but since I don't have any counter space, no place to really set them when I want to use the sink as a sink.
