If you follow truck prices over a period of time, you'll notice the prices rise in proportion to the upcoming rebates/discounts.
We've been "truck-shopping" for awhile, and noticed one specific version of the 2500HD rose about $4000 equipped as we like it ... then, the dealer 'discounted' the truck (Big sign, $4000 discount) - and brought it down to the original sale price. It's been a few months - and prices rise - but not 10% in four months.
We're all for profit in a business, makes this country tick, but don't like it when something like this happens and we get a "GM raised the prices on us" line. The truck is a different VIN, but equipped almost identical to the one we looked at earlier. We always buy certain options - so its fairly easy to compare prices when the equipment is similar.
There's one particular dealer near us that 'hustles customers' ... Genie bought her Pontiac there a few years ago, and it's done our service on both vehicles for a couple years ... Well, now we'll never return for anything.
We needed the brakes done - coincidentally got a flyer in the mail from the dealer for a "new brakes price" ... after we got there, we see the big sign, brakes "$ XXX and 25% off". But, when we get the estimate, it shows full price, and a mail rebate form ... 25% off. We leave the truck ... pick it up, mail in the form (actually, go online and submit) ... two days later, I get an email that program is "Discontinued" ... NO rebate ! So, called the Service manager - he tells me "We don't have anything to do with rebates" -- and "We can't help it if the program cancels" ... Manager ended up giving me a 'certificate for free oil change ... which I won't ever use now.
OK, why have the sign, and why hand me the rebate form? And as it turns out, that program was cancelled a month prior to the brake job. Hmmmm, it's winter, maybe we should call it a snow job instead.
