- Sparky87k5ExplorerI drove it in August 1990 with my first TC on an 87 Ford F250 460 engine and I thought my engine had lost 3 or 4 cylinders of power. Elevation killed my power terribly but other then that it was no problem driving it. Beautiful country to see.
- MERC225ExplorerNo problem. Great views at the summit and other pull-offs. Would not miss the opportunity, can't wait to go back.
- bigfootfordNomad IIIDid it last year. Easy... Little tight in some places but no problem.
Jim - AmericamperExplorerIt will probably be June. That may be my only excursion into CO. We are going to Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Salt Lake, Cheyenne. A big circle from Anniston AL.
- BradWExplorer IIIts a great road that you don't want to miss if you have a chance to drive it. There are lots of small high mtn paved roads in Colorado that I would rather be driving a Miata on, but can easily be driven in a truck/TC. Mtn Evans, Loveland Pass, Trail Ridge Rd, Ouray-Silverton, etc. Just go slow; most everyone else will be. Watch your brakes on the way down. Stop at some of the pull-offs and look around and take some photos. You may never be back; enjoy it while your there.
Where else are you going in Colorado? What month will you be there?
If you get to Fairplay; I highly recommend the Brown Burro Café.

- BradWExplorer II.
- BradWExplorer IIThat's OK, guardrails are for ******* anyway. I've been over that pass many times and I don't remember any part of that road which was a challenge or scary.
Now, Hwy 64 between Franklin and Highlands, N.C. hauling a TC and pulling my jeep on a trailer meeting Friday afternoon traffic; now that is a damn narrow scary drive that I will NEVER be repeating.

Look there; guardrails. Piece of cake. If I can pull a 16' Sunline TT over it with a 1981 4-cyl Toyota truck, you'll have no problem.
Brad
There were actually sections that had no guardrail and while following that dually in the picture, he actually had the outside tire off the edge. That road scared he and his wife considerably. After the summit, he made me go first, but there were not any more single lane road as we headed to Buena Vista. - BradWExplorer IIIn Colorado the vehicle going uphill has the right of way.
The thing is, on a road like that, people are driving very slowly. Hey, if you can drive up mnt cheha, that road is a piece of cake.
