Installing a black tank flush

Ok I am tired of dragging the hose in through the trailer to flush my black tank. The only one I know of is the CAMCO Tornado. I understand to use good 3m Silicone and also clean and prep the area well.

I was thinking of a minor change right off the bat and that was instead of using the hose that it comes with upgrading that to 1/2 PVC and then just a small piece of heavier hose to join the two.

For those of you that have done this or seen one of these is this over kill?

If you have not seen the product here it is CAMCO Tornado

  • I've been doing it for years so I'm not sure why pulling a hose into the bathroom to use a tank wand for flushing out the black water tank AND cleaning the toilet throat is so difficult. :h As mentioned in this recent thread I installed a tank flusher in our hybrid - first one was broken from the get go, second one worked but sure wasn't as effective at cleaning the tank as was a toilet wand. Our next travel trailer had a factory tank flusher and I did use it but I always finished the job with toilet wand. Our current trailer doesn't have a factory tank flusher and with an open underbelly I could easily add one but I wouldn't waste the time or $$ when a toilet wand is so much more effective AND is the only method of cleaning the toilet throat itself. JMO. ;)
  • I also installed the Quickie flush on both the black and gray tanks. I was not bad to do and worked great
  • I have come to the conclusion that while the black tank flusher's maybe better than nothing they are not very effective. A Flush King requires no permanent installation and is much more effective at clearing tanks
  • We had a Tornado and about half the spray holes clogged after a few years. I went to a Flush King. It doesn't spray the water like a Tornado. I put a typical water faucet inline in the outflow pipe near the pump so I can flush using tank or shore water. I have a 4' water hose between the faucet and Flush King.
  • Stay with the flex hose. It is a low pressure application. PVC will probley not do well in the long haul. The Tornado actually was rated highest of the leading 3 according to a thorough non biast youtube report I saw recently. I liked it so well I put one on my gray tank as well. A smart adition. HAPPY TRAILS
  • I installed a Quickie Flush in my Class C and it was one of the best Mods I have done, and pretty simple.

I picked the Quickie Flush over the Tornado because of the high failure rate of the swivel part. A few of my friends had them fail and it leaves it useless in the tank.

The only thing that I changed is where the hose connects up with the flusher I put a 90 Degree Elbow in it to reduce the strain on the hose and make it closer to the tank.

It looks like this when finished, with a quick disconnect on the end.

Don't get discouraged if it leaks at the hose connections at first they are sometimes hard to get tight. Tightened mine up and have had no leaks anywhere.
Another suggestion is to make a test hole in a piece of wood or something and test fit the device to the hole. I found that the hole size suggested was much larger than needed.
    Good Luck.
  • How will you winterize it so that the PVC doesn't break? I haven't seen anyone address this issue. Maybe it is not an issue but it seems to me that the low point in the line would need a drain. I think PEX is less likely to break than PVC.
