Installing a male 7 way in the truck bed

Has anyone done this? My 2015 F250 supposedly has a harness between the cab and bed that I can hook into.

Is there a kit that contains the male end and the electrical connector that I need to run through my bed down to the harness?

Anyone know exactly where the harness is that I'm supposed to hook into?

I tried to find a pic what I'm talking about. I'd want my plug in the front, driver side quarter panel or in the bed of the truck.

Any suggestions?

  • Swung and missed on the wiring harness. Went to the local trailer shop and paid $145 for a harness that plugs into the back of my 7 way.

Gotta go to Ford and see if they have the part # hedge recommended. I'm afraid they won't actually have one in stock, hence the purchase at the trailer shop. (Between kids' appointments and whatnot, I never made it to the dealer before they closed.)
  • Thanks for all the replies, you guys & gals are great! Looks like I can order one from etrailer like old biscuit said, or order one from the factory like hedge said.

The harness was right where Crumm said it would be too.

    Thanks for the help.
  • I'm thinking you're talking about the Ford kit. Yes you will find two plugs on the side of your hitch receiver. You can then buy the harness and the 5th wheel plug from Ford. The part # BC3Z-13A576-A

I wanted to install this kit on my truck but for some reason my 2012 didn't have the plugs so I had to go aftermarket.

below is a thread showing a pic of the connectors on the hitch, near the spare. If you google the part # you'll see how the OEM in bed plug looks and other forum threads showing the install.

Harness plugs for the in-bed plug are in the frame rail on the left side of the spare tire.
  • Our truck has plug as shown in the front driver side of the box - part of a factory made T-in harness like Old Biscuit linked above ^^. We use a double ended short cord to plug into the camper.
  • I installed mine in approximately the location pictured. I used a harness made for the truck that plugged right into the factory harness. I ended up cutting the wire to charge the battery and splicing in a larger, switched wire, but the remainder of it is as-purchased.
  • Hope you get it all figured out easily as we did. We were lucky as our 04 Chevy had the 7 way RV plug in the bumper all weird up and the camper wires were zip tied to the frame between the cab and bed right where we needed them. Amazingly after 10 years of being a work truck and never seeing a camper the labeling was still legible and even more amazingly our 90 model Shadow Cruiser had an unaltered plug end and the owner's manual still in the camper had the wiring diagram in it. Wires different colors so we just matched function to function according to both diagrams and everything worked first try. We don't have an onboard battery so that wire is just taped off. Sometimes you just get lucky.
  • Yup. You can do it yourself or have someone do it. I took my F250 to Hitch Corner and had them install it toward the front of the bed. Works fine, especially with a shorter cord between the truck and the camper.
