Installing an Air Conditioner

I'm about to attempt installing and Air Conditioner on my Palomino
PUP. It's been pre-framed at the factory and I have a drawing of the roof layout as well as a screw that marks the center of the 14" x 14"
of the framing. The roof is a one sheet Fiberglass/Composite? layer.

Has anyone done this themselves??

What do I need to look out for??

The Electric sleeve is in place to get power to the roof line, and
I was planning on using either 12/3 or 10/3 SJ cord for flexibility
to run up there for AC power.

Any hints or suggestions about cutting the roof hole??
  • Make sure that that is your 14x14 frame. I use a oscillating saw, like a dremel. Go straight up at the center and work your way around the frame. Your be able to feel the frame when you hit the frame. Cut the frame out, install A.C. Run power cord to either a pre determined outlet by the manufacturer. Usually going to be a power outlet with a solid white cover or you can run to a existing power outlet.
  • Similar situation to rimcountry. We're planning to remive the Dometic AC added by a previous owner and install a skylight. We dry camp exclusively and have no reason to haul and lift the extra weight.
  • Wish I could help... I'm kinda in the same boat, only backwards... we're about to remove a DuoTherm from the roof of our Viking... we never use it, it draws too much juice for my mini-gen anyway, it interferes with my rear-view, and it's a lot of extra weight to haul around and crank up! Going to replace it with a light-weight, low-profile 12v Fantastic Vent. After this project, I'm thinking I'll know a whole lot more than I do now about a PUP roof!
