The receivers will work if you lay it on it's side, you just have to prop it up so air can get into the vents. I don't know if this will give you mor options for placement.
We've never permanently mounted ours so we can take it back and forth to the house. I have run the cable coming from the sat dish through a window or through the slideout gasket.
Most cables can be run inside of cabinets and down the vent pipes running to the storage compartments to get to the other side.
