satellite dish and receiver

Yes and no. I do wish you read a bit before you posted!
The Tailgater and Pathway antennas do not require any SEPARATE power. You run one coax cable from the antenna to the receiver and all is good.
All of the other systems require a coax PLUS a separate 12V power source (and cable).
The difference is one cable or 2 cables and having a separate power source requirement or not having that requirement. That is a difference that most anyone should be able to understand.

The Tailgater sends the power for the aiming servos out through the coax cable. So far it's working remarkably well for me. While the specs say there's a limit of 50 feet on the coax, I've often run it on 150 feet, including a junction insert. On that much cable, occasionally the aiming mechanism won't wake up, but a second ping will do the trick. Once you're aimed, image quality (SD) is exactly the same.

Well, Mr. Wizard, let me tell you the difference, since you asked?

I already have the Winegard Trav'ler mounted on top of the MH. I'm looking for a portable antenna for those times when the campsite does not permit the use of the roof mounted antenna.
So....if I go with the X1 there would be one cable to connect into the coax connection for satellite already provided in the basement storage bay.
If I go with the G2, I would be required to either get a 12-volt to 110-volt converter (because I already have a 110-volt receptacle in the bay, but no 12-volt receptacle), or I could wire in a 12-volt plug in the bay and go that route.
Not a big deal to wire in a 12-volt plug and then use the two wires coming from the G2 antenna, but the one wire coming from the X1 would be "plug and play" based upon my current MH wiring.
Just something else to consider.

you still have to wire it into power from the RV, somehow some place
unless the single mutli strand cable gets power from the receiver which is powered by 120v

IF i ever go Sat TV it will be with the biggest auto dish i can aford
more surface area better reception

The Pathway models (X1 and X2) are for use with the Dish service only and with the 211 / 411 series of receivers only. The G2 is Dish or DirecTV and can be used with multiple receivers up to and including the DirecTV Genie! (with a slight hardware add-on). For DirecTV you cannot receive the HD programming with a dome but you will get all the same programming in SD.
Dish is the only way to go to get HD via a dome. Choices, choices......

The fact that it can go from DISH to DirecTV is actually a pretty big deal. There are a lot of customers out there that go from DISH to DirecTV every two years. If this wasn't made, they would have to purchase a completely different satellite dish.

There's also more inside the brains of the G2 because it has to be able to toggle with DISH's satellites and also DirecTV's satellites. There's a lot more work that goes into the G2 rather than the Pathway X1. This is why you see the prices are higher.

Does anyone have experience with the Winegard Carryout G2 model yet? I'm trying to determine the advantage over the Pathway X1 system. I see that the G2 allows use by both Dish and DTV, but it also requires a 12-volt cable connection in addition to the normal coax cable. The physical sizes appear to be comparable. What am I missing here for the additional cost of the G2 model?

I have both a Winegard GM1518 portable (looks like an igloo)and I also have a standard DirecTV dish which requires pointing at the appropriate azimuth and elevation. The Winegard works excellently as long as there is a very clear wide open sky, if there is a good bit of tree canopy it cannot find the satellite. I just picked up the DirecTV dish recently so that in those situations I can still get satellite using the DirecTV. Usually if you can find a hole in the canopy you can aim and get a signal. The wife and I are both big TV nuts and though we can get by without it it does make one cranky in the morning not to have the news with coffee.

I got a refurbished Vip211K and Tailgater from PPL Motorhomes for $299. Last time I looked they still had them available.

I just looked and could not find it at PPL.
