insurance questions

1. Once I put the camper on the truck and head out on the road, do I need to inform my auto insurance company, i.e. does that change anything for liability/insurance purposes, i.e. would it cause issues if I got into a collision and hadn't told my insurance company about the camper beforehand?

2. How are you all insuring your actual truck campers? It's a high-dollar item (for me, at least), and I would imagine people want them insured.

Many thanks in advance.
  • Insurance coverage is always murky for a purpose, but shouldn't homeowner umbrella policy cover all liabilities you can face?
Even when ranger breaks his leg entering your TC drop at the park?
  • I have a separate policy on my camper. Its covered 24/7/365 regardless of where it is or what happens to it.

    The ins is cheap.

No doubt it provides 365/24/7 collision/comprehensive coverage. However, does your TC policy provide 365/24/7 personal injury liability coverage specifically for your TC, regardless whether it's on the truck, off the truck, at a campground or storage facility?

Been looking for a carrier that provides 365/24/7 personal injury liability (standalone) coverage for a TC that's used for recreational, non-full-time use. So far, no joy.

Where did the OP or anyone else get the idea that insurance on a truck provided ANY coverage for a camper? That would not be true for most insurance policies. You need a separate, additional policy.....Period.
..My insurance agent (40 + yrs.) Has for the past 8 yrs. of T.C. ownership, always tells me my T.C. is covered as cargo on truck and under my homeowners policy at home on/off truck. I specifically asked about on/off at home because of my neighbors tree. I however also have an additional full replacement policy, because I do remove T.C. at various places in our travels. Our agent (father+son owned agency) just switched from All----- to ----- Farm. My additional policy comes in right about $200. per yr. The switch for them saves us right around 1.5K. Aotu ,home, life.
