I'm retired with a Union pension for life and also receive SS checks. Our 5er payment is just part of our monthly expenses. I only pay $274.00 a month for my 5th wheel. Hardly a budget buster. I don't worry about losing a job or much else. Everyone's situation is different. For us it's part of our entertainment. Way cheaper than going to motels or resorts for 40-50 nights a year, having to buy meals and sitting in a room looking out the window at what?
To the OP if you need a loan then get a loan. Sometimes you can't really put a price on satisfaction. Saving for 5-10 years to buy a trailer is fine. But what are you supposed to do for 5-10 years? I guess that's easy to do if the kids are gone and you're in your 50's and looking at a retirement RV. But what about younger families? I guess you could read travel magazines or sleep in a tent. The thing to do is keep the payment small so you have extra cash for other expenses and also to spend on trips.
