IMO Trailer Mfg. always recommend ST tires only and not LT tires because the sidewalls are not the same.I would suggest to check with your Trailer Mfg. for what they recommend.
They recommend what's needed to carry the load. Doesn't mean another tire can't do the same. No different than a 1/2 ton with P metric tires. Doesn't mean you can't run D or E rated.
JMO but ST tires are only used on most trailers because they cost less and can carry the load. If a trailer MFG wanted to use LT tires they'd have to increase the tire size to carry what the ST tire does. Almost every LT tire in a 16" size costs more than STs. The last thing a MFG want to do is increase costs. It's not worth it with an uninformed public that probably has no idea that the china bomb STs on their trailer are not quality tires. Why up the cost for nothing.
For the same amount of money that can add awning lites or more decals.
