About 15 years ago when Toyota first started seeing success with its first generation prius (Actually second gen. Japan had an earlier model), upper management thought a hybrid pickup would be one of the best uses for the new technology. The rational being the electric motor, like a locomotive, could be tuned for the torque necessary to handle pickup style chores. They have since backed off of the thought process with no known prototypes made and we can only guess at what they found.
