A Montana with one of the new half tons is probably close to if not within the trucks ratings. Don't forget a trucks tow rating is based on continuous duty. Towing over the reccomended rating is simply going to wear the truck out faster.
I have passed lots of folks towing small/medium sized trailers with one ton trucks that had no business towing let alone driving-
