And amazingly, everyone survived and maybe even had a good time!
Seriously, I do kinda enjoy walking around the campground and observing the combos -- you see all kinds of stuff.
All this talk... how many of them were found flipped over on the side of the road? I'm sure it would have made the news. Any follow ups?
With about 10K miles a year taking trips with our RV, I see at least one bad RV accident each year and plenty of disabled RV's on the shoulder. These have all been the aftermath of something that went wrong, but I didn't see the cause.
I see at least one unsafe tow every other month where the vehicle or driver is not in full control. This could be anything from chains dragging, the front end of the vehicle pointed up at the sky, the driver outside his lane markers, etc.
I don't photograph while driving, so the only shots I might have is one stopped while I am also parked.
Does what I see count if I'm not traveling with my RV? ;)
I drive about 15k miles a year all over this great state of Utah, where I'd say we have our fair share of RV traffic, what with 5 national parks and all. Not to mention, a lot of the traffic is rentals and 1st time drivers. I struggle to recall an accident I've seen which involved a trailer and overloaded TV. Oh, I remember one in Oregon, minivan and trailer in the mountains, not good, but that was about 15 years ago.
Anyway, I'm not discounting safety and prudence, don't get me wrong. But there is a lot of hand-wringing on here about safety and "I hope you're not driving anywhere near me ...," while the truth is, there just doesn't seem to be many accidents involving RVs.
I suspect if it were an actual statistical problem, there would be more requirements to be able to tow one on public roads. Actually makes me wonder, though, why isn't there a trailer license certification? I wouldn't disfavor it, actually -- I had to get a certification to drive my motorcycle on the road, and I couldn't hurt anyone but myself with that. Why isn't there an RV or trailer license certification? Would anyone object?
But I digress ... people do pull with some crazy combos, and seem to do so with a very high level of success.
