Possible cause of battery failing: excessive draw from parasitic loads, 12v DC devices used, shorted power wire, emergency break away switch contacts together, fridge defrost heater.
The first thing is to check the circuit breaker between batteries and the rest of the 12V system. It is typically a small can-type breaker within 2' of the battery. Voltage should be the same on both sides of breaker.
To test converter, place meter leads on battery posts while 120V is supplied to converter. 13.6V or greater should be present.
