Inverter install help

Hello,

We are new to RV'ing, and we just picked up a travel trailer. I want to install an inveter and have it run to all the AC outlets. I'm looking for advice on the install as I think I might need a transfer switch to accomplish this. I'm planing to install the inverter near the converter/power panel under then fridge.

The trailer has a Onan 4K generator
I also have a 200 watt solar system to install, at which time I'll ditch the two 12v marine batteries for 2 golf cart batteries.

Thank you.

  • I'm interested in only wiring the AC outlets. I'll be running a 20w TV and a dvd player. Other items would probably be cell phone chargers and laptops. Unless you think the 200w solar should be put to better use then just charging batteries. Would I want to add the fridge or water heater to the inverter? We won't use the microwave.
  • If you want to run 'everything' are looking at a really big unit then. You also have to be careful not to wire the inverter such that it powers the converter.

Personally I decided which circuit I wanted powered and wired the transfer switch after the breaker panel.
  • Install the inverter as close to batteries as possible. If you want the inverter to be a "whole house" solution, you'll definitely need another transfer switch.
