Fifth wheels connect to the truck over the rear axle (or nearly so) versus 4' back at the rear hitch, so they are not able to exert nearly as much leverage on the tow vehicle going down the road. They also tend to have more weight on the pin versus the amount of tongue weight on a TT, and that also helps stabilize the trailer.
A 30' TT is too much for a half ton, imo. At least if you're towing it very much. If you're wanting to get a fifth wheel or a larger travel trailer I really do think you would be better served with a heavy duty truck. Buy a used trailer to make up for the difference if you need.
