Notice Padlin is actually towing the linked 5er with his half ton. Also axle to frame air bags help the nice riding coil sprung Rams a lot. TLC, Timber Grove, & Air Lift make them. As does a no sway WDH if you don't get a 5er. 225,000 on my 14 Ram 1500 delivering TTs from manufacturers to dealerships from Ohio & Indiana to all over with lots going to WA,OR, & all over CA ie over all the grades in between.
Weight distribution is key to safety whether you are useing a half ton or bigger. Weigh your axles don't exceed axle ratings or CVWR and you will be pleased. (Payload ratings are a dis-service & all Mfg's should do away with them IMO.) A trailer brake controller and load rated tires instead of factory Passenger rated tires also help.
I just delivered a 30'11" 8,013 pound Airstream and with the benefit of my Anderson no sway WDH & TLC axle to frame air bags she handled great. Load rated tires & trailer brake controller also helped. BTW I have a GN turnover ball and super light Andersen 5er adapter. Haven't used the 5er adapter.
