I disagree about the blanket statement that a 30' TT is too much for a half ton. Visit a campground, plenty doing it safely and effectively. I towed a 27' with a half ton and ZERO problems.
Now that being said, it all depends on weights. As long as the 30' TT is within the limits of the half ton (all discussed above) and has the proper WD hitch set-up (perhaps a Hensley or ProPride might be in order there) it can be done. If towing a lot in the mountains, yeah, this might not be the most enjoyable drive; but towing locally in flat ground, no worries.
