A properly equipped 1/2 ton truck won't have any issues pulling a 30' TT. Some 1/2 ton crew cab 4x4 trucks weigh more and have longer wheel bases than some shorter wheel base reg cab 3/4 ton trucks that weigh about the same.
I'm not comparing apples to apples but using GM specs a 1500 crew cab 4x4 has a 153" wheel base. My wifes 2016 1500 crew cab 4x4 with me behind the wheel weighs 5660 lbs gross.
Now GM specs show a reg cab std bed 2wd 2500 truck gas engine has a 133" wheel base and weight 5739 lbs.
This is why a blanket statement that side winds will blow a 1/2 ton truck around or handling issues but not a 3/4 ton truck doesn't hold water.
1/2 ton trucks like Fords F150HD package 8200-7750 gvwr and 4800 rawr.
or GM 1/2 ton NHT package with a 7600 gvwr and 4600 rawr..
or some of the '00 era 1500HD GM 8600 gvwr....6000 rawr...6.0 gas
or the 1500 Dodge Mega Cab 8510 gvwr...6000 rawr
or the new 1/2 ton Nissan HD Cummins diesel 8xxx gvwr....4800rawr
these 1/2 ton trucks will have no problems with a 30' trailer.
Will all 1/2 ton trucks handle a 30' trailer....no ,some will not.
