Man you guys kill me, same discussions and lack of actual facts.
Why don't you guys stop talking theory and actually go to the ram truck website and use the payload calculator function. It will tell you exactly how much passenger and trailer you can tow. A ED crewcab with 4 passengers + 783 lbs of cargo can tow a 7,900lbs trailer and still be under the CGVWR.
The main issue here, you guys always throw out numbers and ignore simple facts, those numbers are based not on capability but what the MFG will warranty for.
When you start looking at the Ram 2500 and ram 3500 trucks, they are identical, the only difference is the sticker and a spring part number. that is from Ram Truck Design team directly.
This is the same for the Ram1500 trucks, they are all the same. However, like Fords you can get different spring rates and tire combinations, which do change the carrying capacity.
the ED trucks towing capacity isn't based on the ability of the chassis or suspension, they base it on what they consider a "safe net for warranty repair" on the Engine.
Also the 4x4 comes with the 3.92 gearing not the 3.55 gearing. The trailer he is referring too, even if loaded to max capacity would be 7500#. I doubt he is putting 2500# of cargo in his trailer. Plus the fact that he can offset the trucks left over payload to the trailer.
The truck he is asking about is more than adequate to tow the Jayco 28BHS, according to the Ram Truck Website. FYI I was looking at the outdoorsman 4x4 ED Crewcab. FYI the tow capacity goes down by 1000# if you select the 3.55 gearing which is an option on the 4x4. So again, this goes back to, there is more at play here than just a "no it won't handle it"
Ironically the Ram1500 is more capable than a ecoboost f150, and I have seen plenty of people on this forum towing a comparable trailer with that truck.
