Is it ok to drive with the bed mat and no tailgate?

I drilled two holes in the front of our mat, when the camper is out, the mat is tied down with two short ropes thru the holes at the front.

No worries about it staying in or flying out.

Takes about 10 minutes, the hard rubber drills very easy, two one inch holes..
