When I went to pick up my camper last summer about 400 miles away I left my tailgate on. I brought a moving blanket wrapped it up and put it in the camper on the way home. I strapped it to the couch with a bungee cord it never moved. I hate driving without a tailgate I just don't like the way it looks.
