I use my garden hose all the time to fill my water tank. If it makes you feel better, sanitize your hose (the same way you would your water tank) then use it. Or you can do like I do, flush it for a minute or two first then fill your tank.
Times two and once in a great while I pour a few ounces of bleach in the hose and then rinse it well, seems to work well! JMHO Jb
This is not the issue.
The white hoses are made from virgin materials; regular garden hoses may be made from some recycled materials that once contained undesirable chemicals that could leach into the water in the hose. Also, the white hoses are made with materials that do not leach any compounds into the water.
How "safe" is it to use a regular hose? Probably OK. The most problem would be a bad taste or smell, unless you consumed a Niagara Falls volume of water over many years from a hose that was leaching chemicals.
