Let's clarify are you planning on traveling the US in the trailer or plan on being stationary for extended period of time while living in the trailer? If you plan on being stationary you can hire someone to tow that trailer where you want them to and keep your escape.
Yes, you will need a larger transmission cooler than the standard one. When we bought our F 150 we added a larger transmission cooler than the standard one as the truck did not come with the tow package.
What is the payload for your Escape? That will also effect the bottom line on the trailer you choose.
Ideally I would like to drive to my next destination and stay there until I want to leave, then find another place. My time in each place could vary but I don't like to drive more than 4-5 hours at a time. I would hate to have to deal with finding someone to move it every time, I might want to only stay somewhere for a few days.
Is payload the amount of weight it can tow? All I know is fully equipped, it SAYS it can tow 3500 pounds. But like I said, as i'm finding out, that isn't recommended. Although I have heard of some people that are doing it anyway, but I've never towed anything before and have no expierience with it so I'd rather not take any chances.
