Isn't it amazing what many small 4 cyl vehicles can tow but so many here say it isn't possible with your V6.
Would you full time in those for the next 5-6 years? I doubt it - that's what the discussion should be about.
To the OP again - if you haven't lived in a trailer or maybe even camped in a trailer for a few days I would suggest that you go and rent one for a while to see how you like living in such a small space. Try and rent a small 14-16ft trailer (something that would be feasible for you to tow with the Escape) and see if you can make it work. I would ABSOLUTE do this before making a decision to purchase a small trailer that would fit the Escape. If you can't find a trailer that would work to rent than maybe try to rent a very small Class C motorhome and see if that works and than imagine the space being even smaller.
You mentioned that you have been thinking about this for years now but have you really thought about the limited amount of space you will have with a small trailer? A 16ft trailer would give you a max of 128 square feet of space and that is if nothing at all was inside! You would really have maybe 2/3 - of that space to actually "live" in. If you have been used to living in a 1000sqft apartment or maybe even a larger house then that is a BIG adjustment. That's not even getting into other issues. Small trailer usually means small fridge, small propane tanks, small holding tanks well small everything.
I know some people can make it work but IMO the more space the better and easier it will be to full time.
Some people on this thread are saying you can't tow anything with your Escape which is wrong because you can - obviously. You will want a transmission cooler, electric brake controller and a good WD hitch and sway control setup but you can tow with the Escape. However, I just don't think you're going to be able to tow enough of a TT to make full timing really enjoyable.
Which ever way you go I wish you luck. If you decide to keep the Escape and buy a small small TT then maybe you can start a blog about full timing in a small TT. Share your experiences and your thoughts - I would almost bet that one of your entries after a few weeks or months would be titled: "I wish I got a bigger TT to full time in." :B
