No the output ducts would be tied to an OUTPUT plenum of some kind.
It might be possible to visually trace the one that works and find that common spot.
And yes, the lower ducts are for heat.
You only have dual function ducts if you have a heat pump climate system.......which is not very common and on high end models only.
