The first part of the question "Is my TT too big for long trips" has been answered. Basically you can tow almost anything with the right setup.
The second part is "How practical is it to take a large TT across country."
I camped next to a 40 plus foot Montana with six slides. The guy thought it was perfect for the type of camping he and his wife did and were getting ready to retire and travel.
I think my 25 footer is the perfect size.
Some campgrounds may not accommodate a larger size TT and you have to pass them up. In AZ I found a few places that would not accommodate any thing larger than a tent although one industrious fellow manage to wiggle a Pup into one sight.
Even on a recent trip to MO there was a portion of the State Park that would barely accommodate a PUP.
You match the TT to the type of camping you want to do. I come from a canoe and tent background, so my 25 footer is the lap of luxury.
Folk tow bigger TTs all the time. Nothing new there.
