This is a tow forum so I understand your sentiment. However, some of us use our trucks for payload and the gas engines far exceed the payload capacity of the diesel. When I bought my 2013 Ford F-350 DRW there was almost a 1,000 lb payload penalty for getting the diesel. I needed all of that for my truck camper.
Good point. What is payload on a 3500 hemi? I have 4076 per door sticker on mine (Laramie with every option available). Some of those truck campers get awful heavy though don't they?
My Ford has a 14,000 lb GVWR in a crew cab. Truck camper is over 5,000 pounds loaded for camping. Diesel has same GVWR and 950 pounds less payload (I understand the payload hit is more than the weight of the engine alone. You have an extra battery, DEF tank, etc. in Ford the Diesel and gas have the same transmission). Here is my payload sticker:
