Uhm.... CO2 is not smog nor an air quality pollutant. It is a greenhouse gas. Two different things.
The diesel emissions devices we are talking about here are there for air quality and smog reduction, not CO2 reduction. In fact, even the three way catalytic converter used for gas engines is designed to convert NOx(smog) into CO2 among other gases. They are there for smog and air quality for human health, not greenhouse gases. You are talking about something totally different and is another subject.
