Food for thought. How many decades did it take to get the emissions on gas powered vehicles mostly reliable? And some of them still have problems.
Yes. Remember the air pumps and early versions of EGR valves........and how often they both broke?
And all this talk of diesels and coal? Technology will triumph. A local municipally owned coal fired power plant here has operated operated one of its two boilers with SCR catalyst technology (successfully) since 1996. The plant has exceeded all EPA air quality requirements in place at any time since it first went on line in 1987. And the operator continues to adapt, adding natural gas fueled combined cycle generating capacity, supplements its natural gas purchases with FREE landfill methane from the nearby county landfill, has built two multi-acre solar farms on its property, and ALL its water needs for power generation/cooling and anti-pollution equipment are supplied by reclaimed water from a nearby wastewater treatment plant.
It CAN be done, and at reasonable cost.
