Is there a break in period before I can tow?

I am buying a new 2017 f250 0 miles on Friday. We leave out for a 3 hour tow 8700 lb travel trailer 6 days after that. Is there a certain mileage I should but on this before hooking and towing?

If you are going to tow within the 500 mile suggested break in period then I would suggest taking back roads and NOT the expressway. vary your speed as in stop and go through towns and do not go expressway speeds for a long period of time. Drive the heck out of it around town before you head out.

  • I bought a new 2017 f250 last October. Break in was 500 miles before towing. Our TT is about 7500lbs loaded to camp. My thoughts since I bought the truck brand new is to do all recommended maintenance etc from day one by the book. 9k miles later I could not be more happy. Beast of a truck.

  • look at the owners manual.

Don't know about ford, but GM says something like 500 miles before towing at a minimum to allow the rear diff gears to wear in. and then there is the std. speed etc. for the first xxx miles.
