I always thought the 26-feet would be the perfect size trailer. Easy to tow and easy for getting off for gas and rest stops etc...
The East side of the Us is probably the worse for the real long trailers... Out West you can pull the biggest just about anywhere you want to go with minimum planning...
We got the urge many times to go with hard sides and the 26-foot size was alway what we looked at. Never made the change however and we are still pulling our off-road POPUP. plenty of room for just the two of us... Great gas mileage wins the battle everytime...
