That might also describe the A/C condensor.
Follow the lines from it and see if one leads to the transmission and the other to the side of the radiator. If they do it's a transmision cooler. If it looks like someone cut a factory oil line and hooked this in with a couple of regular hose clamps then it is definately an add-on. If it looks like a factory install, it probably is.
