The damage may be more than just the gears.
Since tow ratings are usually different depending on the gears one has,,,, then one may have inadverdantly been over loading the truck. This can cause other problems such as REDUCED tranny life. Dodge should be paying for that as well.
I have a friend that bought a used Dodge 3500 cummins. He blew the tranny, and spent a good chunk of change fixing it. Later he had it in the shop for a differential leak. The mechanic pointed out to him, that the previous owner had installed 3.21 gears in place of the 4.10s it had from the factory. That is why he blew up the tranny.
I would want the gears I ordered, and a 200,000 mile powertrain warranty, or a new truck.
