Issue with awning

Just following up with everyone..
After trying my best to diagnose the problem found it to be the motor and off to the dealership.
When they get the motor, in, i will hand them $100 then take my trailer back out camping....

I found something that might help should you want to try to jump the circuit, there is a battery schematic for a switch. You might be able to pull the switch out then connect it directly to a battery with the 3rd wire to a tester or 12-volt bulb then toggle the switch to see if it works.

Other than doing some voltage tests, I'd wait until it can make a trip to the dealer since you are still under Starcraft's excellent two year warranty.

I definitely wouldn't try to do any hotwiring or such.

Just from sound of it, I'm leaning toward a bad switch.

your next best bet is to get the manual from the site and follow the troubleshooting info.

Hi Eric. That's the first thing I did. They suggested that I bring it in. Which I don't want to do if it's something simple...

You might want to contact your rv dealer and ask the service rep how to test the switch. I've had issues in the past with our (then) motorhome and several times got to speak directly with an rv tech.

I would be hesitant to jump or hot wire a circuit without knowing if I might fry something else.

Or even better i wonder, is there a way to hotwire the the inputs on the outlet for the switch to see if the awning retracts, or extends?

Silly question likley, but how do you check the continuity? I am not sure where I would put the inputs on the multimeter...

my guess is that its a "standard" double pole / double throw switch. Center contacts are the "inputs" (ie. power and ground), while one "pair" connects to "forward" the motor and the other "reverses" the motor.... the "polarity reversal" could be done either internal to the switch or down at the motor. Hence, you just need to look / check for continuity when the switch is pushed on way or the other... of course you do this with it disconnected.

further, its more likely that you have a wiring issue / connector issue. Have you check your voltages (AND grounds) at / near the switch and at / near the motor?
