Had a similar thing happen to my wife and I, we were going to visit the inlaws (the camper wasn't in the truck and I pulled into the fast lane to pas (Interstate) and at the same time I pulled out (turn signal on), some clown in a sports car decided he'd gas it and pass me before I could move over (he was behind me in the slower lane). I checked my mirrors and moved over and when I was just about in the fast lane I felt a slight nudge and watched as this little roller skate car was spinning in the median. He recovered and went on. I stopped at the nearest highway patrol post and reported it and heard nothing afterwards. Desk officer told me that happens all the time, usually with much more severe results.
He took the dirt off my cab step, that was all. My truck sits pretty high, high enough that a small car could go right underneath. It's a F350 4x4, 6 over stock on 33 x 10.5's so it's up there.
I always feel very safe driving a beast.
People in general don't take driving a serious business. people think it's a game or a fun thing. Vehicles are lethal weapons. Living in a no fault state at least I don't have to go after the other persons insurance company or them, I can deal direct with my insurance (so long as it happens in my home state).
