There is nothing that Seldom could have done to anticipate or avoid this -- thank heavens he is ok.
Sometimes, though, a driver can anticipate other drivers' bad behavior. For example, on the LA freeway system, we often see pairs of souped up cars racing through traffic, weaving in and out at high speed -- traffic is at around 60, and they are going 90. I can see these criminals coming up behind me. I will then create an extra gap so that they do not clip my front fender while racing.
