Jack

Question - what do you all use for a jack in case of a flat tire? Do you figure you can use your TV jack or do you carry something specific to the TT? If so, what? Looking for ideas.

  • I carry a little 8 ton bottle jack that I've had for years.
  • Not sure how a bottle jack is gonna 'tip', unless you don't chock the other wheels, or if it's still attached to the TV and you actually use the parking brake... :)

I can't count how many people I see park their vehicle, and NOT apply the parking brake... But, that's not the point of this thread.. ;)

Scissor jacks work just as well too, so choose your poison and go with it..

I have #5000 scissor jacks on all 4 corners and can and have raised one side with the rear ones... No issue at all for me.. But, I've only got a 22' TT, so if you have a 30'+ one, might not want to do that.. :)

But, the factory tow vehicle scissor jack should work just as well.

  • I use a scissors jack, the bottle jacks are rather tippy. In addition, a scissors jack is much shorter for getting under the jack point when a tire is flat. Yes, I have heavy shock mounts that double as a jack point. Jacking at the axle requires little lift, but some axle tubes are too thin. Jacking on a spring plate should not be a problem.
  • I use the truck jack, and just to make it better. The lug wrench fits the TT lugs.

However I am thinking of mounting 2.5 ton scissiors jacks just behind the rear wheels on both sides. Than all I would need to do would be to place my leveling wood blocks under them and run them down
  • This is the same jack I've had in my truck for basically 'forever'.. I don't even remember how old it is, but I've had it for a loooong time..

  • I've used my truck jack in a pinch and since then have used and carried a bottle jack . I also carry 4"x6"x1' blocks in case I need to raise the jack up if needed on the side of a road, on a soft spot, etc... I also use the wood blocks under the stabilizer jacks when I'm in my campsite.
  • I have used my truck jack and also drove one of the tandem wheels up on some boards.
  • Do you have a dual axle TT? And are they they close together or spread apart? If they are close, you can just ride up on a few leveling blocks, and it will pop the other tire off the ground. If you want to spend the money on a tool specifically for it instead of using blocks, you can use a Trailer-Aid.
  • I carry a small 3ton bottle jack

I do have AAA RV Roadside service so I would call and have them change the tire
