Jay Flight vs Snow River

Hi I'm currently considering both of these trailers: Jay Flight 28bhbe and the Snow River 288bhs.

The floor plan is pretty similar on both but I prefer the Snow River for both the larger couch and the outside access/ storage of the lower bunk.

Price I think would be about 7k cheaper for the Jay Flight. I'm imagining about 25k for the Jayco and 32k for the Snow River.

Being from Montana there is a need for adequate cold weather ability. I'd imagine the Snow River to have the edge here. I personally go with aluminum exterior in the Jay Flight.

What are your thoughts? What would you go with if it was your money? I've posted this on the Jayco forum as well. I really want to make sure I cover all my bases before I make a purchase.

    X2!

Not even in the same league. Also Aluminum sided trailers are pretty terrible in cold weather. Lots of air leaks, and generally poorly insulated especially compared to a Snow River (which has better insulation than your typical smooth-side trailer.
  • I have a snowriver, it is well built, but like all RV's has had minor issues. i bought it because the frame is a lot stronger.
  • Ya I posted on the Northwood and Jayco does also. Just trying to get a relatively unbiased opinion.
  • I faced a similar decision a couple of months ago. Not a Snow River, but an Arctic Fox verses a Jayco Jay Flight TT. I now have an Arctic Fox on order.
But like someone stated, it's not exactly an apples to apples comparison.

I see you posed the same question over on the Northwood ROA site. The replies you will get there are very predictable.
  • Arctic Fox is a great product. I had an old Nash that I got rid of last fall and bought a Jayco. I LOVE my Jayco, but the Nash was better built and had better insulation. If you plan on stretching your season in Montana, the extra insulation of a true 4 season camper will be a very nice asset.

Only you can decide if it is worth an extra $7 grand though...
  • If I was only going to use it for occasional weekend trips and a week or so vacation, I would buy the Jayco and use the $7K to pay for the trips. If I was going to use it during the shoulder seasons and camp a lot more often and a lot longer, I would get the Snow River.
  • Thanks for the replies, I realize I'm not comparing apples to apples. I'm really just trying to figure if the extra 7k is worth it. spending the extra money on a better Jayco doesn't work for me as I'd assume just get the Snow River at that point.

Resale seems to be a bit better on arctic fox products too.
  • There is a "gross" linkage between price and quality. Most (?) of the time the more costly rig will be built better.
There is also a similar linkage between weight and quality, a heavier rig tends to better made.
  • Of the 2 units the Snow River would be my choice but there are some things the Jayco unit has that I like as well. These units are not apples to apples comparison as the Northwood unit is a higher end unit to begin with. Looking at the Jayco Whitehawk or Eagle models would be more inline with the Snow River for a more accurate comparison.
