yes, the black striped wire runs down to the emergency brake.
both the red wire and black striped wire are connected to either side of the green fused wire by wire nuts.

I wonder if the PO had a singular battery connection wire that ran out of the wire nut that connects the striped and green wire??

What my understanding of the necessary corrective action is to unconnect the green fused wire from the striped wire. add a battery terminal connection to both the (now disconnected) striped wire and also the green wire (which remains connected to the red wire).

If you wouldn't mind taking a photo of how yours is set up, I would appreciate it.

That makes sense, has the ring terminal broke of the orange/black & fuse holder (is the touch of yellow beyond the black tape the crimp on ring terminal)? is the brake away switch orange/black?

My guess would be that the two wires were just taped together to make the internal electrics work. Why? Dunno.

The PU would need a + connection to power stuff inside the PU, can't help you find it.
