Jayco "Aliner type" folding trailer

Just saw at local Jayco dealer a hard sided popup trailer styled like the Aliner brand. Went to Jayco's website and couldn't find any info about it. This one was called a 12H and was the new colors. Anyone know about this?
  • A modern Apache (plastic instead of canvas, pull out beds) would be about perfect. More room and secure enough to overnight in Walmart parking lots. Growing up, we had a Scamper with the blue plastic canvas; next best thing.
  • RoyB,

You have the perfect camper as it is. I would never go to a claustrophobic A-frame from a spacious camper as yours. I had the same floorplan in my 2406. Obviously you don't have the canvas leakage issues I did. If I didn't, I'd would had never gotten rid of it.
  • RoyB - I cant speak for the Starcraft, but I can tell you my Flagstaff hardsided toyhauler does have the beefy heavy duty frame. It is perfect for our equipment and motorcycles. Forest River has them with a sofa bed or a permanent bed set up on one side and a dining table/full bed on the other side. Perfect for is for camping, rockhounding and simple road trip travel.

This latest STARCRAFT ALINER type layout might fit my "WAR WAGON" inception for building up something like the Australia off-road trailer setup...

Building this layout into something that looks like the bottom off-road trailer photo.

I have a feeling the 2014 STARCRAFT does not have the beefed up frames my current 2008 Starcraft 14RT has under it. I have been thinking about re-working my present 14RT front deck into something like the Australia Off-ROAD trailer has on the front of it...

Interesting change of events taking place now in the US...

You would think the market for the smaller trailer that fold down behind your truck tow not giving much wind resistance when being towed would really be big now with the high cost of gasoline and the need for smaller trailers. My truck loves my 4200lb POPUP being towed behind it as it almost gets the same great gas mileage (18-21MPG) whether it is towing the trailer or not.

I always liked the hard sides of the ALINERs that probably gives you more safety than the folding POPUPs do I suppose.

Glad to hear there may be a new market in the making for these units.

  • Another entry helps. What I saw looked like one floorplan inside the 12-foot A-frame box, three options for storage in front: box, small deck, larger deck. Four counting "no deck."

I will have to look at them. Went to my Rockwood dealer last Spring to look at pups and A-frames, they had a used A-liner I thought looked better than the Rockwood they had in stock. The A-liner must have been underpriced, it was gone the next day, the Rockwood 128S floorplan model sat all summer before going out in a fall clearance.

Will be interesting to see if my Jayco dealer picks it up. He gave up on selling pups last year. We are in a miserable area for tent and tent camper living, pretty much forced to air condition by muggy 100+ temps for much of the "school is out" season, although we have five-six months of nice weather before and after (so long as tornadoes are not coming through).
  • The Jayco & Starcraft entered the A-Frame market this year. Their models look very much like Forest River's Flagstaff/Rockwood line right down to the interior floorplans and appliances (cool cat, microwave, fridge, stove) . I have a Flagstaff toyhauler & one would think Jayco is the same except for the exterior color and interior floor/fabric difference. The cost is also comparable to FR. I think Starcraft & Jayco models will give Forest River a run for their money which in turn will continue to take a piece of the A-Frame market.
  • An interesting find! I did a quick google search and found a dealer with one of these. So we can see the specs there:
    new 12H from Jayco

They seem to have 4 different models available, with small variations:
    4 Jayco A frames

Prices remain to be seen. Probably similar to the Rockwood/Flagstaff A frames.
